We are proud to announce that Jessica Jackson is our November Omnis Athlete of the Month!!! Jessica shows up almost everyday and puts in the work. She is very coachable, but also is not afraid to tell you EXACTLY what’s on her mind, and this is what we love about her!!!!
Name: Jessica Jackson
Where did you grow up?
I’m an army brat–South Carolina, Alabama, Germany, Kentucky, New Jersey
When did you become a member of Omnis CrossFit?
I was there for the very first WOD, the day the doors opened!
What do you do when you are not at Omnis CrossFit?
I’m a civil engineer working in materials testing by day. If funds my real passions–backpacking, rock climbing, paddling, and trail running.
How did you find out about CrossFit?
Brady just told me to show up, so I did. I still do what he tells me, sometimes.
When did you realize Omnis CrossFit was right for you?
I knew Omnis was the place for me from day one. I love feeling like I’m on a team, spending time with people who are actively pursuing goals, and celebrating with each other when we achieve them.
What is your favorite WOD/movement?
I dig deadlifts and handstand push-ups, so Diane would be at the top of the list.
What is your lease favorite WOD/movement?
Wallballs are my personal bane.
What would your perfect WOD look like?
It would start with back squats for strength (5×5–looking for a new PR) followed by a METCON with low reps of toes 2 bar, push press, heavy Russian kettlebells, and a long run to cash out. The playlist would be Drive By Truckers and a bunch of alt-country that no one else likes. It would end with some lazy yoga stretches and an IPA, Lost 40 Rockhound.
What is one thing that you have done at Omnis CrossFit that you never thought you would do?
I never thought I would be able to climb a rope
What motivates you during a CrossFit WOD?
I love a crowded class with lots of energy and friendly competition
What is something about yourself that we might not know?
I met my beloved/fussy husband in the wilderness (literally) in the dark of night. We’ve been cackling together and engaging in public displays of affection ever since.
What advice would you give to someone just getting started with CrossFit?
Don’t cherry pick WODS. Come on in and do work even if it’s not your favorite movement. Also, work on mobility at home, not just at the box. We never have enough time in a hour to really love on our ankles, hips, shoulders, etc. as much as we need to.
Fill in the Blank (One Word)
