July Omnis CrossFit Athlete Of The Month

For our July Athlete Of The Month at Omnis CrossFit, we present Nhi Shirley!!!  If you know Nhi, you know  she is as dedicated as they come.  She comes in and puts in the work no matter what and lights up any room that she enters.  One of the best things about Nhi is that event though she has been with training through CrossFit for a while now, she still shows up everyday wanting to learn more.  Being coachable is one of the best qualities you can have as an athlete.  Read further to find out more about Nhi and her journey with us at Omnis.

Where did you grow up? Renton & Spokane, Washington

 

When did you become a member of Omnis CrossFit?

3/16/15, which is very close to when it first opened.

 

What do you do when you are not at Omnis CrossFit? (Occupation, Hobbies, etc.…)

I work as a projector coordinator/marketing specialist. I really enjoying running lately. I love to sing, pet dogs, and travel with my husband.

 

How did you find out about CrossFit?

Originally from my friend Tommy about 5 years ago, but I found out about Omnis through Coach Brian Reynolds.

 

When did you realize CrossFit was right for you?

When I moved from Washington, I knew I needed to find something that had a group environment, included a planned workout and a great coach since that was what I was accustomed to for 7 years previously. I tried to go to the regular gym and create my own workouts, but it just was not what I wanted. I had loved the way CrossFit pushed me when I had tried it a few times in the past so when I was introduced to Omnis CrossFit, it just made sense to join.

 

What is your favorite WOD/movement?

Murph & Overhead Squats. Both are not only physically challenging but also mentally challenging which I absolutely love!

 

What is your least favorite WOD/movement?

Klepto (I specifically remember doing this with Coach Lindsey who told Coach Aaron that she wanted to throat punch him during this WOD) and burpees because EWWW!

 

What would your perfect WOD look like?

4 RFT

10 Overhead Squats (65 lbs)

10 Box Jumps

200 m Run

 

What is one thing that you have done at Omnis CrossFit that you never thought you would do?

Strict Pull-Ups

 

What motivates you during a CrossFit WOD?

Encouraging words from coaches and members as well as watching people do what they never thought they could do! It’s my favorite!

 

What is something about yourself that we might not know?

I can sing in Vietnamese but I cannot read or write in Vietnamese very well.

 

What advice would you give to someone just getting started with CrossFit?

Be teachable. Trust the process. Trust your coaches. Leave your ego at the door. Be your own competition. Have fun. Keep a positive spirit. Encourage others.
